Today is the day. The whole season has pointed to this day, and it is finally here. For today is the 44th Super Bowl. I am excited to see the game, but I am more excited about the prospect of finally ending all the talk. The past two weeks have been nothing but a love affair for Peyton Manning. Yes, I get it, he is a great player (possibly the best). However, unless you have forgotten he used to be extremely prone to choking. All it will take is a violent flashback to one of those old Patriot playoff games and homeboy will start to choke it all away, or a brutal beat down from a snarling Saints D-lineman leaving the Colts with the talents of Curtis Painter(Right Bret, should have run that ball). As you can probably tell, I really don't much care for the Indianapolis Colts. I cannot really explain my dislike of them, mostly because I enjoy Peyton outside of football but I just cannot stand him when he is throwing that football. So, in the end, I hope for and believe in a Saints victory today. It seems as if the Saints are riding high and there may be too much confidence on the Colts sideline, to the point of looking past the Saints and not focusing enough, or not giving enough credit to the beat down ability of the Saints D.
As you could have guessed, I have made these opinions quite known throughout the Houston House. It may be the fact that these are my opinions that cause the rest of the House to go against them, or they may in fact believe the opposite to actually be true. I am more obliged to believe the former, but it should make for a lively evening as the game bears itself out. With today being the biggest day for American football, I cannot help but think about the fact that this summer will be a huge summer for world wide Football, or soccer.
Thats right, this summer is the return of the World Cup. I truly cannot wait for this event to begin. I absolutely love the World Cup. I enjoy watching the US team every time the Cup comes around, eventhough I know that they stand no chance at all. This years cup has several favorites that have the opportunity to go the distance. Teams like Spain, Germany, Italy, and Argentina seem to have the best of chances. However, my favorite is the Netherlands squad. The reasons are three fold. First, they have the sweetest orange jerseys of all time. Second, their players have awesome names like Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Lastly, they have great talent and had a great showing in the 2006 World Cup. Many people will look to the other favorites that I mentioned to cruise easily through the tournament, but it always seems that the teams with the greatest talent often struggle. I think the team that eventually wins the Cup has fairly good talent, not great, but has tremendous heart and a bit of luck out on the pitch.
Today is indeed a great day for football, but this summer will be a most glorious time around the world for football. Regardless of whether or not you like soccer or football, today's game will have something for you. Watch it, love it, embrace it, because it is America. Thanks for reading
